The Perth Hills feature some amazing natural bush, forest, wildflowers, waterfalls and rivers, along with incredible views. There is culture galore with numerous art galleries, vineyards, theatres, restaurants and cafes. Nature and culture meet, just 30 minutes from the city.
For those seeking a break there are also many bed and breakfasts, spa retreats and private residences as well as many walking and cycling trails which allow you to take in the beauty that the area has to offer. In particular the Bibbulmun Track reaches from the Mundaring Weir, through Kalamunda and almost 1000 kilometres to Albany. Scenic lookouts and picnic spots can be found throughout the area and restaurants and cafes are abundant.
Attractions in Mundaring include the Mundaring Arts Centre, which is one of the largest community arts centres in the state. The Mundaring Weir is also a must see, along with the water pipeline which stretches 530 kilometres to Kalgoorlie. The Mundaring wine trail encompasses Darlington, Glen Forrest, Mt Helena and Wooroloo which have some of the oldest wineries in the region.
The Kalamunda town centre village features many cafes and other character stores. There are several heritage building sites in town and a great deal of local art, music, history and theatre. The library includes an information centre and the largest community-built stained-glass window in Australia. An arts and craft market is held in town on the first Saturday morning of each month, and farmers markets are held every Sunday morning. From Kalamunda you can head out to Bickley and Carmel Valleys, rich with vineyards and local produce. Cellar doors are open most weekends and public holidays.
The Darling Range features the Araluen Botanic Park, perfect for enjoying a barbecue or picnic combined with a bush walk or just relaxing amongst the tranquil gardens. Roleystone Theatre is nearby, and has been entertaining the public for over 75 years. The Raeburn Orchards are a popular tourist attraction and offer freshly picked fruit direct from the orchard.
